CookieViz 2.3: a new, more secure and stable version and a focus on the role of intermediaries

CookieViz is the first software for the general public developed in-house by the CNIL, available on Windows, Linux and Mac OS. Version 2.3 corrects many stability issues and highlights the role of market platforms in exchanges.

The Cookieviz 2.3 software, which can be downloaded for free from the CNIL's Github account, analyses the interactions between your computer, your browser and remote sites and servers. By installing it, you will be able to know to which other actors the site you are visiting sends information. It allows you to create visit paths manually or from a text file, to perform histogram, voronoi and graph analyses.

 

What does this new version bring?

 

More stability

Version 2.3 of Cookieviz is a global revision of the platform's analysis system. It is more stable, abandons some obsolete mechanisms and its browser is more secure.

Easier installation

CookieViz is now delivered in the form of installers, small programs that allow you to easily install the software on your computer (PC, Mac or Linux). Cookieviz is "signed" so that it is natively recognised by operating systems as an "authentic" version issued by the CNIL.

New visualisations

The visualization of communications now highlights the central role of marketplaces in real-time bidding mechanisms:

Install and use CookieViz 2.3

1.   Download the Cookieviz installer on your computer: for Windows (64, or 86), Linux and for Mac;
2. Run the CookieViz file.
2. Visit different sites (information, social network or e-commerce platform).
3.   Cookieviz will identify one by one the web actors who have access to your navigation data.

Developers and web experts, contribute to the open source project!

The source code of the Cookieviz software is freely accessible and can be enhanced by developers. The most experienced developers can improve the initial version of the tool, correct any bugs or develop new features or even propose new translations!
